English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Thursday, October 1st, 2020 to Saturday, May 1st, 2021 (ET)

About

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is a student-led group that is part of Community Corps, a program of the Swearer Center for Public Service at Brown University. ESOL is partnered with the Rhode Island Family Literacy Initiative (RIFLI) and together works to address the marginalizing effects of language barriers by providing English language and literacy classes to adult immigrants in the Providence community.

Student instructors will collaborate with our English learners to help improve their knowledge and comprehension of the language. Instructors will be responsible for creating a weekly lesson plan to address the varying needs of our learners at each level of proficiency. Because of in-person limitations this year, we will be providing training, teaching resources, and classes virtually, via Zoom or Google Classroom.
