Design Program Support Intern

Monday, October 12th, 2020 to Wednesday, June 30th, 2021 (ET)

DownCity Design
is a non-profit design organization dedicated to helping people design solutions for their communities. Our goal is to improve the core cities of Rhode Island by inviting citizens to imagine and create better futures, using the tools of design. Our free design programs help youth become change-makers by inviting them to create solutions that respond creatively to challenges and opportunities in their communities. DownCity Design students have built over 80 permanent amenities for public spaces in and around Providence, including community gardens, benches for their schools, play structures for parks, and outdoor classrooms to host workshops on healthy and sustainable communities. We also convene community design dialogues that help groups solve problems using the design process as a framework. Our goal is to engage and empower students, while making the city a better place to live, work, and learn. For more information, visit us at

Currently, DownCity Design is searching for a Youth Program Support Intern to strengthen our capacity to serve our youth design program participants in Providence and beyond. This position will touch three distinct different parts of our administrative work (Data Management, Communications, and Recruitment).

This intern will assist in better tracking and understanding the impact of the exciting work that DCD is doing through youth programming, and will help us to expand our reach to new audiences and generate support for our mission. As part of this tracking, they will take the lead in maintaining and streamlining existing databases of student information and program outcomes. In addition, they will support our communications staff in sharing the stories of the extraordinary service learning, creative problem-solving, and community building work of our youth designers. Ultimately, the work of this intern will also support our fundraising efforts by creating compelling campaign and grant-writing materials.
